This week, I’m sharing how to create a clear message that connects with the kind of clients you really want to work with. I call them “champagne clients”—they’re the ones who truly value what you offer and help your business grow, without needing you to post nonstop, cut your prices, or completely change your brand.

Why Your Message Might Not Be Landing

A lot of business owners are doing amazing work, but still struggle to find the right clients. Most of the time, the problem isn’t the service—it’s the message. If people don’t clearly understand what you do or how you can help them, they’ll either get confused or miss out completely. That’s why having a message that really clicks with your audience is so important. It helps you grow your business and makes it easier for your dream clients to find and trust you.

What Messaging Truly Means

Your message is more than just a sentence on your website or a fun bio. It’s a clear way to show who you help, what you help them do, and how you do it—all in a way that’s simple and easy to understand. Instead of saying something vague like “I help businesses grow,” a strong message takes your clients on a journey. This matters so much because people aren’t just looking for someone to do tasks—they want real results.

The Three-Part Formula for Compelling Messaging

I take a straightforward approach to making messages more engaging. This three-part formula for messaging has helped many freelancers attract the clients they want.

  1. Who You Help: Get super clear on who you’re talking to. Use words they actually use to describe themselves. For example, instead of saying “business owners,” you might say “online course creators making six figures who are tired of launching to crickets.” Adding those extra details helps you speak directly to the people you really want to work with.
  2. What You Help Them Do: Highlight the transformation you provide. Speak to outcomes rather than processes. For example, communicate that you streamline funnels for enhanced efficiency, rather than detailing technical ‘how-tos’.
  3. How You Do It: Create a special method or approach that makes you stand out. This could be your own step-by-step process or a strategy you’re known for. Give it a unique name and talk about it when you’re working with clients. It helps show off your expertise and makes your brand more memorable.

Integrating Your Message Across Platforms

Once you’ve nailed down your message, it’s important to stay consistent. Use the same clear sentence across everything—your social media, sales pages, email signature, and client proposals. When your message is the same everywhere, it builds trust and shows people that you’re reliable and professional.

Try to avoid these common errors when messaging:
