Inside My Calendar: A Behind-the-Scenes Look at My Weekly Workflow
Optimizing My Calendar for Both Business Success and Quality Family Time
Running a thriving $1,000,000-a-year business in less than 20 hours a week might seem like an impossible challenge. Throw in homeschooling two children and you have a modern conundrum most would shy away from. Yet, I find myself juggling these diverse roles daily. This week, we are discussing the strategies I use in my business to maintain an effective and intentional schedule that prioritizes time over money.
The Importance of Seasonal Scheduling
One of my key beliefs is understanding that schedules require flexibility based on life seasons. Over time, my schedule has evolved with my life circumstances—from the number of kids I had to changes in locations. My story reinforces the belief that our calendars should adapt as life does. My recent transition to homeschooling showcases the necessity to pivot and reallocate time purposefully, allowing me both the space to nurture my children and fuel my business.
Intentional Time Management
Over time, I realized that mastering time management is about more than having a full to-do list; it’s about identifying priorities. I have shed unnecessary tasks, focusing instead on those that align with my objectives. By delegating my time into chunks of undisturbed work periods—my “magic time” between 9:30 and noon, for instance—I maximize output in my optimal working conditions. For me, saying ‘no’ to less critical engagements is just as important as saying ‘yes’ to those that are.
Creating Efficiency through Batching and Limiting Distractions
The 48 to 72-hour fast action bonus is a powerful strategy that can be implemented with your next The techniques I implement are simple yet effective, such as batching tasks and reducing context switching—actions that can increase efficiency and productivity. I back each productivity tactic by asking pivotal questions like, “How can I make this easier?” or, “How can I simplify this?” By focusing my calls on a dedicated day, I maximize other days for uninterrupted work, thereby driving productivity and avoiding energy-sapping transitions.
Embracing a Four-Day Work Philosophy
Fridays are left unstructured in both my business and personal world, serving as catch-up days and, more importantly, as pockets of surprise relaxation or learning. This approach doesn’t prevent me from addressing unanticipated duties but encourages a balance where family time triumphs over work. My scheduling philosophy reflects the belief that work should be adjusted to suit life and not the other way around.
Carving Out Family-Centric Time
A common thread in my schedule is the intentional family time I carve out—whether it’s homeschooling activities or shared chores on “Power Sundays.” This day is my family’s ritualistic reset—meal prepping, planning, and organizing for the week. These collective activities provide a structured foundation for the week ahead while also having family time. Flexibility with discipline allows me to integrate quality moments with my family into my professional schedule.
Aligning Business Goals with Scheduling Decisions
My scheduling approach firmly aligns with my business goals. My decisions to forgo podcasts or speaking opportunities reflect a calculated choice, one that aligns with my vision for my business and personal life. And by performing regular time audits, I identify specific opportunities within my calendar, ensuring that each scheduled task aligns with my larger business objectives and personal values.
Conclusion
When creating your schedule, it’s crucial to remember that the true asset to your business isn’t money but time. My strategies affirm that with intentional planning, anyone, whether a full-time professional or a budding entrepreneur, can maximize productivity and enjoy meaningful family time. For those eager to dive deeper into such strategies, programs like Conversions for Clients and The Strategist Society serve as extensions of these beliefs, offering structured support and strategies to optimize one’s time effectively.
By tailoring my life and work schedule to accommodate both professional and personal priorities, I am changing with the seasons of life and the different demands of life.
