The Ultimate Bounce Back: Aligning My Business, Body, and Beliefs

How I Aligned My Life and Business After a Major Setback—and What You Can Learn for Your Own Comeback

Running a business isn’t always smooth sailing—setbacks happen, and they can hit hard. Yet the stories we’re often told—about the “hockey stick” growth, seamless comebacks, and bounce backs that look easy—are lies that society tells us. This week, I’m laying bare the realities behind my two-year journey from major business and life changes to a place of greater alignment and purpose.

Whether you’re facing a dip in business, struggling with life transitions, or just wondering if it’s possible to truly “have it all,” my experience offers not only support for others going through similar things but also a blueprint for rebuilding on your own terms.

Facing the Fear: When Setbacks Become Reality

For me, a variety of events in 2023 brought all my entrepreneurial fears to the surface: the unknown of having a second child and a simultaneous 50% drop in business revenue. There was a time when I wasn’t sure if I could be both—a mother to two children and the owner of my own business. The thought of juggling both roles felt overwhelming, like I had to choose between being present for my family and pursuing my professional dreams. I questioned whether I could give enough of myself to either without sacrificing too much or losing the comfort of my revenue. But over time, I’ve learned that while it’s not always easy, it is possible—with boundaries, support, and a lot of determination.

The pivotal lesson I learned? Setbacks don’t define you. Instead, how you choose to respond to challenges does. While some might surrender to fear, I decided to create a new truth. By temporarily pivoting my offerings and reaching out for consulting clients, I generated immediate revenue, which is proof of what can happen when you adapt to the ever-changing demands of entrepreneurship with creativity and resilience.

The Myth of the “Bounce Back”

One of the most powerful messages from my story is my challenge to the myth that “bounce backs” mean a total return to what’s familiar. Whether it’s the body after pregnancy or the business after a downturn, the truth is: We’re never going to be in the exact same spot that we were before. Improvement takes many forms. For me, it meant shifting my focus to what aligned with my new life as a mom of two and sole breadwinner, including hard decisions—like shutting down established programs to create more white space and freedom.

Crafting an Aligned Life and Business

My major turning point came when I asked myself: What do I want my life to actually look like? From this foundation, I built a business to support my personal priorities. For me, alignment looked like:

  • Setting strict work hours to prioritize family and homeschooling
  • Consolidating my focus into a few, deeply impactful programs for my clients
  • Creating support structures that fit my energy and life
  • Adopting “standards of excellence”—daily habits crucial for consistency in business and health

Sacrifices, like closing my longstanding membership community Serve Scale Soar, were tough but necessary. This realignment allowed me to pour more energy into things that brought both me and my clients the greatest results.

The Power of Small, Consistent Actions

The most dramatic transformations in both my business and personal life came not from one-off, dramatic decisions but from my “standards of excellence”—five daily habits:

  1. Making five touchpoints with potential clients
  2. Moving my body
  3. Fueling my mind
  4. Celebrating a daily win
  5. Getting up and ready every day

This consistent approach, compounded over time, led to both a business revenue rebound and personal health milestones (like losing 60 pounds post-pregnancy).

Embracing New Hards, Building a Life of Meaning

Every level in business and life comes with its own version of “hard.” I realized the powerful contrast between my past struggles to afford baby formula and the current stress of navigating large tax bills brought on by my business success. It’s important to remember that we get to pick our “hard”—and with each new season, new blessings and challenges surface.

In 2025, I chose to invest in my family and our adventures, saying no to masterminds and yes to travel, homeschooling, and a business-affiliated lifestyle. By supporting my clients in achieving real results, I witnessed my own growth, joy, and fulfillment multiply.

Conclusion

My story proves that a setback is not a sign to quit, but a call to realign. Your bounce back may not restore you to the old normal—it may carry you somewhere better, more meaningful, and more aligned with who you are now.

If you’re in a hard season, know that it’s temporary and that with clarity, small daily actions, and alignment with your true priorities, your ultimate bounce back is not only possible but inevitable.

Key Takeaways:

  1. Setbacks are not the end: I share about experiencing a 50% revenue drop after having my second child, and how this did not signal failure but a chance to bounce back and realign my business and life.
  2. Structure your business around your life, not the other way around: I emphasize building a business that supports the kind of life you want to live, including time for family, personal health, and joy.
  3. Hard choices lead to better alignment: Making tough decisions, like shutting down my original membership program despite its community and revenue, allowed me to align my business with my values and reduce burnout.
  4. Invest in yourself, even when it’s scary. Remember to embrace financial challenges and view them as growth opportunities.
  5. Support and community matter a lot: Being surrounded by people who are doing big things inspires and helps you get through challenging times.
  6. Small, boring actions beat flashy moves: There is no overnight success. The unsexy, repetitive actions create sustainable results.
  7. You can have both a thriving business and a fulfilling family life: My journey is proof that with clarity, boundaries, and aligned business models, you can be both an engaged parent and a successful entrepreneur.

and so much more.
