160: Don’t Send Another Contract Without These 4 Things

Brandi Mowles podcast episode feature about contracts

“What does your contract say?”

If you’re a member of Serve Scale soar®, you’ve probably heard me say this before. As service providers, issues will come up—whether it’s late payments, clients canceling their contracts, or even scope creep, but how you have to handle it will always come down to your contract.

In this episode of Serve Scale Soar®, I’m diving into the four things you need to have in your contract to protect yourself and your business. So many people forget these crucial pieces, but including them makes life so much easier.

With freelancers, virtual assistants, or service providers, the chances of getting sued are so incredibly small because if there were damages or a dispute about your work, the value is probably so low that it would actually cost more to go to court than just to forget the whole situation to begin with.

Does that mean you can never be sued? No! People could be sued for anything, but your risk in this profession is lower. However, I 100% believe that everyone should have a contract. What I love about contracts is that many times, it handles the conflicts for you. You can always refer back to it when issues with clients come up.

Value Bombs:

  • Why the risk of being sued is so low in this profession
  • What I love about contracts
  • Why you need a late payment policy
  • The importance of a contract cancellation policy
  • What to consider when it comes to your turnaround policy
  • How to define the scope of work in your contract

These are the four biggest things that I see people not including in their contracts that they really should. You have to stay true to your contract so you don’t want to forget the most important things.

The contract is not so much about protecting you from being sued. It’s more about setting boundaries for you and your clients. I encourage you to go and check out your contract and make sure you revise it to add these clauses today.
